Tires & Wheels
Our Main Area Of Expertise
Where the rubber meets the road!
TIRE REPAIR / FLAT REPAIR
An improperly repaired tire may fail when driven at high speed causing loss of vehicle control.
Flat or damaged tires need to be repaired by qualified personnel.
Almost any sharp object on the road can cause a flat tire. We repair tire tread punctures up to 1/4″ in diameter. We do NOT recommend repairing larger punctures or punctures to the tire’s shoulder and sidewall.
Do not attempt to repair the tire while it is still connected to the wheel.
You must inspect the inside of the tire for hidden damage or risk weakening the tire. Punctures in the tread area may damage a greater area of the tire like the inner sidewall. Without removing the tire, it’s hard to see all the damage.
Proper tire repair is critical and any puncture or injury to a tire will affect its performance. If you have any questions regarding your tire’s condition, we’ll be glad to inspect them for you.
Call or email us to repair or replace your damaged, punctured or leaky tires.
TIRE ROTATION
What:
Rotating your vehicles Tires on a regular schedule allows you to get maximum life out of your purchase. It also allows us to check the health and wear of your tires. Checking for abnormal wear patterns can tell us about your air pressures, driving habits, wether your vehicle is in need of a wheel alignment or if there may be a more serious issue. While in the air, we automatically take a quick look at your brakes to give you a heads up on how they look giving you an idea of when they will need to be changed in the future so that it doesn’t creep up as a surprise before a trip. (Or Christmas!)
Why:
The front tires carry the weight of the engine on most vehicles as well as, steer, and help brake your vehicle. On front wheel drives they even distribute the acceleration. This causes extreme tire wear. Most RWD, AWD, and 4X4’s tend to encourage a feathering or cupping in addition to the uneven tire wear. This leads to a rougher ride, increased gas mileage and faster wear.
On AWD and 4X4’s it is imperative that you replace all 4 tires at the same time. Failing to do so can lead to costly repairs and voiding of warranty on newer vehicles. Rotating your tires helps ensure even wearing for all your tires. On FWD it is recommended to replace all 4 at once (as well as installing 4 winter tires rather than 2), this is strictly related to safety. (It becomes a pivoting factor. If you have traction/stickiness with new tires on the front, as well as 10x the weight from the motor as opposed to the back; what happens when you slam on the brakes? ie think Bambi on ice)
When:
Average recommended time to rotate your tires is every 8-10,000km. Some vehicles or tires may need to be rotated sooner according to their warranty information. As well, if you are feeling a vibration either in your steering wheel (front axle) or seat (rear axle), a rotation would be the ideal place to get started looking for answers.
Contact our staff to get your tires rotated and inspected.
Why do my tires need to be balanced?
For a smooth, quiet ride, even wear and better gas mileage. You see no tire is perfectly round and no wheel/rim is either.* This is not an imperfection, its simply mathematics. When we at Quality Tires install a new tire onto a wheel we use markings (the yellow, blue, and green dots you see on brand new tires) to match up the very best spot for that tire to sit on your wheel. Then we use a computerized high speed balancer to indicate the best place to put the least amount of weight (those silver or grey clips you see on your wheel usually 1/4oz – 2oz on bigger vehicles). This makes the Tire&Wheel assembly run smoothly and quietly together on the road. Anytime a tire comes off a wheel it must be rebalanced. During normal driving, the wear of a tire, whether it has hit a large pothole or curb, a large amount of dirt and so on can all effect the balance of your tire.
The best rule of thumb is to rebalance your tires going to the front of your vehicle during a tire rotation. As well if you feel any vibration through the steering wheel or the seat of your vehicle. Try to take note of what speed you feel a vibration at and where (steering or seat), as this is key to finding exactly what is happening with your tires.
*it should be noted that any new tire or wheel that is not within limits will not be mounted. If we are changing over your tires and wheels, we will let you know of any excessive movement on the wheel or tire BEFORE we install it. If it simply isn’t safe to install, we will not install it. Our children are on the road too!
